The BlasTech Industries DL-44 heavy blaster pistol by JohnsonArms The BlasTech Industries DL-44 heavy blaster pistol by JohnsonArms
An Australian friend by the name of Sam sent me on of these cool Han Solo DL-44 "toys" a few weeks ago. It arrived white and orange, which I did not recall from the movie. I bored out all the little holes in the front and did my best to fill all the screw holes that were on this side show in the photo. It was a first go, so I already have ideas for making it a lot better if I get to do another one :)

Check out the second try here [[link]

Yay! the DL-44!
Which is really just a Mauser C96 with a bunch of stuff stuck on it.

and very nice work on that! Have you ever thought to do nerf gun designs in that lineart style? It would be useful for sketching designs!

the barrel should be a little bit longer thought.

Indeed. But that would be a good complaint to Hasbro :) I don't modify the barrel because time/cost to "fix"
it would not be worth it. I'll do some 1:1 scale replicas here soon and then you can see proper

Han shot first! Seriously tho - I have always liked that Mauser style meshed into the Star Wars galaxy.

Top notch work, as always.

Gyah, I remember when toy blasters looked like they were actually from the movies.

I actually have an original 1977 blaster..it's quite bad in proportion to be honest, but at least it was all black :)

Still, I suppose it's better to go to Comicon with one of those rather than a customized original Mauser broomhandle.

I assume the price would be considerably different. Replacement price as well. I know Master Replicas get about 750 for the ones they sell. Oof. :)

I meant more along the lines of not getting tackled by security for carrying something that looks like a gun.

Meh, they are pretty understanding with the sci-fi weapons when you're in the convention. In the mall would be a totally different situation :)

The convention I went to is pretty tight. No replicas/toys of modern weapons, any converted weapon like a Nerf or Super Soaker must be rendered incapable of firing, any conversion has to have a visible orange end…

I had an idea for a story once where the resident inventor/gadgeteer actually built his weapons into Nerf-esque toys. So, you had our heroes walking around with a submachine gun disguised by white and orange plastic and a compact experimental rail gun built into a foam-launching sniper rifle. I wanted to screw with any possible toy manufacturers. :B
