3D Printed and Prepped Good Samaritan replica by JohnsonArms 3D Printed and Prepped Good Samaritan replica by JohnsonArms
Here's a really nice ABS plastic replica printed on a Makerbot 2.  I spent 3 days working on the cleanup (this photo was from the third day and was about 75% finished).  This is a really great model and I can't wait to get it finished :)

Mazing!
I like the Hellboy films, and the Samaritan is badass!
It also reminds me of Vash the Stampede .45 Colt revolvers

Can't help but wonder what you started with, straight from the 3D printer, but you're well on the way to a very cool wrist breaker.

I would love to have one of this, that can shoot nerf MEGA-Darts! Great work man, I did a 3D modell on Inventor my own, so I know about the complications.

That would be awesome!   Not very likely, but awesome often doesn't have to be feasible :)

How bad was the cleanup on the markerbot? Looks awesome!

It was ABS, which is much easier to sand and clean up.  That said, it still took me about 5 days to get everything as nice as I could.  Thanks!

I hope I have good eyes; the last time I saw an eye Dr was for a routine checkup 12, almost 13 years ago, right before my driver's license test.  They told me I had "better than perfect" vision, or in the doctor's words to my mother: "The eyes of a goddamn hawk."

Very interesting, i am assuming the cylinder fits correctly when it's installed in the right direction though. Are you going to make any kits of this?

You have  good eyes ;)  I noticed that after taking the camera home and then realizing I had put it in backwards.   It was late after a long day, haha

It does line up perfectly in the correct configuration.  There's a rod that holds it in place (the rod was also made with the 3D printer and fits perfect!).  I'm genuinely impressed with how everything seems like it will fit together like a Swiss watch :)

You 3d print now? or you have a buddy? I'd love to make a moving parts blaster from stargate atlantis but its way past my skills. This is sweet btw.

Thank you very much!  I have access to modeling and printing, but it's not done in my shop.  It's a good collaborative effort and I'm excited about what we can make in the future.  The thing I would caution with 3D printing is that there's still a LOT of tweaking and cleaning to do before the raw print can get molded or painted.  This particular piece was about nice as they come and it still took me the better part of 4 days to get it ready for step two :)

How are you prepping it? plastic primer to get it smooth? And is it PLA plastic? The makerbot 2 only does PLA, but maybe it's at 2x.

Ah, maybe it's a different machine that he's using, but I know there's a Makerbot2 in there somewhere!   It's definitely ABS plastic and it cleans up pretty well with sanding and filling with bondo glaze putty
